Description of the oriental breeds |
The Siamese is the most common of these breeds. It can be traced back to the 12th century were it was considered a holy cat. It lived in the temples and because people believed it guarded the souls of the dead, it was very well treated. The punishment for stealing a Siamese was at that time death. The Siamese’s body colour is ivory white and the ears, paws and tail has the same colour as the face pointings. It is approved in 20 colours.

The Balinese is a longhaired Siamese. The Balinese comes in the same colours as the Siamese, they have the same blue eyes, the same intelligence and the same temper. The only difference is the length of the fur. The fur of the Balinese is silky and easy to keap. The length is between 1,5 and 5 cm. The tail is shaggy and always raised. The fur on the tail can reach a length of up to 10 cm.

The Oriental is a Siamese who isn’t pointed. This means that is has colour all over its body. It does not have blue eyes like the Siamese and Balinese, but has a grass green eye colour. This eye colour, were the cause of the breed almost disappearing from the market, because green eyed cats wasn’t considered pure and couldn’t be used in exhibitions. After many years this cat became interesting again and an enormous breading were started. It is now approved in 140 colours and points.

The
Oriental longhair is like the
Balinese – a longhaired oriental cat, but has the same colour of eyes as the
Oriental and is also approved in 140 colour varieties. The breed of the oriental
longhair started when a wish for longhaired oriental cats arose.

Foreign White is simply a white siamese. Same body, same temper, same look - just pure white with either blue or green eyes - or odd eyed.
The Oriental Bicolour is the latest acknowledged of the breeds. It also appear in both short- and longhaired variant. It doesn't have actual points or full bodycolour like the Oriental, but is coloured with white.

The
Oriental breeds have a long slim but still muscular body, long slim legs and a
tail that looks like a whip. The head is long and triangled with a straigt
profile and big ears. The eyes are almond-shaped, the fur is tight, shiny and
silky. These cats are among the most intelligent cats and are called "dogs
in the shape of a cat". They are very devoted and strongly connected to
their owners. They are very curious and want to be everywhere. The Oriental cats
like big families or another cat if you are single. They have a strong
personality and are wonderful partners in life.
